Parks Day events July 20 in all Provincial Parks: Get Outside! NB
Get Outside! NB Partnership brings ENGOS and Government Together
(Fredericton) The new Get Outside! NB partnership - Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – NB Chapter (CPAWS NB), Parks New Brunswick and Nature NB - are excited to announce events in all provincial parks for Canada’s Parks Day, July 20.
Get Outside! NB is a partnership among conservation groups and government that aims to connect people to nature, using our parks as the natural backdrop. Summer student Parks Natural Leaders have been hired in all the provincial parks, and at Fundy National Park, to create nature-focused activities and events.
Roberta Clowater, Executive Director of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, NB Chapter, says, “CPAWS NB is really excited to be a mentor to the young Parks Natural Leaders who are working in our province’s parks this summer. CPAWS NB will be offering nature activities at Parks Day events at both New River Beach Provincial Park, and Fundy National Park, so we can get more people to love and be inspired by our nature and parks. Our parks provide some of the best places to make that connection to wildlife and wild places. We’re eager to encourage people to get out to our parks, and discover all the nature walks, seashore explorations, moose and eagle watching and mountain-top vistas they have to offer.”
Danielle Smith, Executive Director at Nature NB, notes, “Our naturalist experts are keen to share their knowledge about New Brunswick’s wildlife with people at our parks. For Parks Day, we’ll offer Parks Play Day bus trips to Murray Beach, New River Beach and Mactaquac Provincial Parks, from Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton, respectively. This is an excellent chance for people to experience these parks for the first time, or get a free ride to visit them again.”
“The Get Outside! NB partnership is energizing our approach to provincial parks promotion,” says Ian Smith, Project Executive for the Parks Branch of Tourism, Heritage and Culture. “It’s motivating to see the parks through the eyes of our Parks Natural Leaders, and to work with our environmental group partners in making these activities happen.”
Get Outside! NB is led by a steering committee that includes: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – NB Chapter; Parks New Brunswick; Nature NB; UNB Faculty of Kinesiology; Renaissance College; Maritime College of Forest Technology; Outdoor Educators of NB; with assistance from the Child and Nature Alliance of Canada.
CPAWS NB and Nature NB are grateful to the New Brunswick Wildlife Trust Fund for their support of our participation in Get Outside! NB.
