Get involved!
The parks and wilderness of New Brunswick are important to all of us. They form a part of our identity, and provide us with plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. However, in order for these things to continue, help is needed. If you are looking for a way of getting involved in protecting special areas of New Brunswick, we have a few ideas.
Take Action
- The Restigouche River Watershed is an important part of New Brunswick's landscape and heritage, and we are trying to have some portion of this magnificent area protected for the future. If you would like to help us, take the time to visit our action centre, learn a litle about it, and then send a letter to the premier of New Brunswick to let him know what you think. Every voice counts.
- Mactaquac Provincial Park, just west of Fredericton, has been affected by the recent budget brought down by the provincial government. To cut costs, the budget of the park has been reduced substantially. As a result, the park will not be operating during winter months in the future. This means that 17 full-time staff will be cut back to part-time,
and facilities will not be open in the winter months. Although the park grounds will still be open for people to go on their own, there will be no grooming of trails or the sliding hill, and washrooms will not be available. Local residents are working on trying to get the government to overturn this decision, and they are asking for help. For more information, you can check out the Facebook group on this issue (Keep Mactaquac Park Open in the Winter), or contact Jennifer Beckley directly by email.
